Gerardo Martino has resigned as head coach of MLS side Inter Miami due to personal reasons.

The 62-year-old took over in June 2023 and left with a year remaining on his contract.

Former Argentina and Barcelona boss Martino led Inter Miami to their first two trophies, the 2023 League Cup and the 2024 Supporters Shield.

“I’m honored to work for such a special club and lead such a special team,” Martino said.

“I am happy at Inter Miami and will cherish the memories we have made and the relationships we have built for the rest of our lives.”

“I leave with gratitude for my time here and I want to thank everyone who made this possible.”

Owner Jorge Mas said the club would announce Martino’s successor in the coming days, with Javier Mascherana heavily linked.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder was a former team-mate of Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Mas said Messi would be involved in the process and he wanted the Argentine forward to be comfortable with the new appointment but would not have voting power.

Messi’s contract with the team Register ufabet expires at the end of the 2025 season. But Mas insists he fully expects the 37-year-old to remain with Inter Miami. When the club moves to their new stadium in 2026.
